About Us

FROM THE DESK OF THE PROPRIETRESS
Let us with a gladsome mind, praise thy LORD for He is kind, for His mercy shall endure, ever faithful ever sure- Ps 136. I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generation (Ps. 89:1).

It is with utmost pleasure and deep gratitude to Almighty God that the scriptures above are an expression of my inexhaustible mindset thanks and deep gratitude to the maker of Heaven and earth who has made the journey stride of this Golden year possible for me again All praises and thanks be onto Almighty God alone.
You will agree with me that not all establishments experience a continuous flow of half a decade of uninterrupted existence and professional advancement. Now, where do I start from?

However, allow me to flood this space again with great nostalgia of the memories of our resounding victories down the lane of this Golden year with the help of God almighty and the nobles, the great people who have become part of success story, I cannot forget in a hurry.
I took a look at my previous speech, despite its relevance, I see so much that God has done within the space of 5 years to make up this Golden Anniversary a huge success. My heart is just full of joy, thanks and praises to God Almighty. He has made our little beginning great and our greatness unlimited.

Without much ado, it is expedient of me to let you know that the birth and existence of Victoria Schools was given me by divine inspiration and this is the reason we have stood the test of time and still standing, getting better and stronger.

As life is said to be in phases, so is success in levels, the Beacon of light is a revelation and accomplishment of a giant stride. We strive to give the best and stand out to shine as light With resilience, determination, doggedness and tenacity pivoted with a vision driven mindset aimed at not just providing, qualitative, affordable all –round education that enable our products complete favourable with their counterparts anywhere in the world but to be outstanding as light to others.

Victoria school had a humble beginning in 1971, today what comes to my mind is that - “success comes to those who work hard and stays with those who don’t rest on the laurels of the past.” It is important to recall and remind you, with great nostalgia how difficult was to get to the present site of our great school with no access roads, save the long bush pathway, the link “bridge” connecting Aguda and Ijeshatedo (which was made of logs) very few and scanty buildings dotted all over the place making the present and permanent site of the school look like the middle of nowhere or a modern day Bermuda triangle. But with resilience and strong determination we marched on from our “Egypt” to our promise land.
Also, worthy of note is an architect of repute in person of Architect Emeritus Elder Ayo Afe, who drew the building plan and raised the first block of five class rooms that housed the first set of pupils. (We are glad to have him in our midst celebrating with us 50 years after and I urge him to stand for special recognition and resounding ovation for a job well done.) Victoria children school is a government approved co-educational British –Nigerian curricular school located at No 43, Immam Shuaib Street, Ijeshatedo Surulere, Lagos. The school opened her gate for the first set of pupils at No 1 Rafiu Baruwa Street Ijeshatedo under the name Ebenezer Day Nursery School in 1971, and moved to her present and permanent site at No 43 ImmamShuaib Street Ijeshatedo in October, 1972. That same day, the name was changed to Victoria children school in the loving memory of my industrious and caring mother, Madam Victoria Famewo of blessed memory. With a modest beginning of few pupils, Victoria children school has grown to become a reference point in the provision of quality primary education not only within the Ijesha community, the Surulere axis but throughout Lagos metropolis and environ. Our sincere appreciation also goes to all former Head Teachers and principals who laid the solid foundation that we’ve been building upon. Notable among them includes Mr E.O Adebayo of blessed memory, Chief Joseph Dayo Famewo, Mr. G.E Ehizojie, Mr F.D Appiah, Mrs O. Ezerike not forgetting the pioneer principal of the High School Mr. Tunde Shonibare, Pastor J.K Olosunde and Mr Isreal Osinubi, may the Lord bless and reward them all accordingly in Jesus Name Today, Victoria Children school can boast of a long and in –exhaustive list of ex-pupils who are at the top echelon of their chosen professions and careers such as Medicine, Engineering, law, manufacturing, politics, business among others

Consequently, strong challenging positive agitations from our esteemed parents who clamored vigorously for the school to see their wards through secondary education in other to imbibe our core values - the culture of moral and academic excellence in them, Victoria High school was established in 2001. The school situated at No 37 Ilamoye Street, Off Adeshina Street, Ijeshatedo, has to the glory of God moved on to becoming one of the best secondary school and a school of choice for parents in Lagos and its environ. It is worthy of note that in Victoria, all subject areas are fully covered and the curriculum is a mix of Nigerian and British using the Montessori methodology.

“Education is a social process.Education is growth.Education is not a preparation for life; education itself is life”
Our Golden anniversary is not only a time to celebrate but also a time to reflect. Over these years, Victoria children school has become a house hold name in the preparation of pupils for both internal and external examinations. At Victoria all primary six pupils are given opportunity to sit for all external examinations and the results have been consistently excellent. This explains why our products can also be found all over the unity schools both at the state and federal levels with amazing reports of their outstanding performances in learning and character. Similarly in fifteen years of its existence, Victoria High school has grown tremendously. Numerous laurels and medals in both academics and athletics have been won. While the results of external examinations (BECE, WASSCE, NECO) for five years running are unarguably unparalleled.

The emergence of COVID is a great challenge which interrupted a lot of things, yet it birth us a new vision which we will see as we begin a new phase of an enlarge and upgraded visions Despite these feats, we have refused to be tempted to rest on our oars. We have made it a priority to upgrade and update our infrastructure. The aim of the school is to provide students with a strong foundation comprised of knowledge based and skills which are the primary tools for success in life. This is never an easy task, of course, Victoria schools rose to the challenge 50 years ago and continue to address that challenge today .A major effort in meeting that challenge has been a shift from a more traditional curriculum to a more holistic curriculum, focusing not only on curriculum content but also on context and application. As we know that we are in a digital age, my dream school is one which srives to develop literate and numerate students with godly attitude who harness the power of digital content and to this effect, our ICT/computer room is newly equipped with new generation standard computers fully upgraded and connected to enable our products compete with international standard. Our biology, physics and chemistry laboratories are fully reconstructed and well stocked with the required equipment. We also have a state of the art music room with all necessary standard musical instruments, our ICT/ computer room is newly equipped with new age computers fully upgraded and connected to the internet. We have maintained a consistent online presence as our parents now check their wards results online. It is no more news that the world is now a global village; I have ordered our ICT staff to ensure the live streaming of this programme in other to enable our alumni all over the world to have a feel and connect with their Alma Mata on this great occasion and thereafter. In addition, in this new phase we there will be a revival of some important curricular activities like scouting, Red Cross, inter – states excursion and addition of entrepreneurship skills… Our profound appreciation goes to God for bringing us thus far and to our parents (past and present), for believing in us and entrusting their wards into our care for over four decades. We hereby appeal to other parents who feel their wards deserve more than what they are currently being offered outside there to join the moving train of fifty years of uninterrupted academic excellence. Our highly qualified staff combine their experience with the state-of-the art facilities provided by the school to bring out the best out of your wards, make them compliant for the emerging challenges of the 21st century. As I bring this speech to a close, I enjoin everyone to join me to honor our past heroes who have gone to be with the Lord In conclusion, Victoria schools will continue to make it a priority to assist serious students from indigent homes to achieve their quest for academic excellence. Finally, I want to thank the present PTF executives of both schools for their contribution towards the development of the school May God honor you too (IJN). I am humbled by the love shown by my colleagues NAPPS leadership and members at all levels. Especially our current NAPPS president Lagos state chapter Chief Amusa M.T Olawale (HOMOT), and Hajiya Rekiya Tukor chairperson of Surulere chapter of NAPPS.

To my hardworking indefatigable teaching and Non-teaching staff, this would not have been possible without your consistent input. May God reward your labour of love accordingly in Jesus Name (Amen). To all Victoria students and pupils (present and past). As we birth a bigger vision of light that will change our world, a standard for others to follow, My slogan remains: “lets celebrate the past, lets consolidate- the present and lets conquer the future. God bless all of us. Amen
